Frequently Asked Questions

Applying

How do I apply?
Applications should be submitted through MyNewTerm. Please complete the application form and supporting statement, demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the role. We do not accept CVs from agencies.

Do I need to submit a CV?
We ask applicants to complete our application form rather than submit a CV alone. This helps us ensure a fair and consistent recruitment process.

Can I apply if I don’t have experience working in a college?
Many of our roles value transferable skills and experience. We welcome applications from candidates from a range of professional backgrounds who can demonstrate the skills and qualities required for the position.

Can I apply for more than one vacancy?
Yes. If you feel you meet the requirements for multiple roles, please submit a separate application for each vacancy.

Can I apply if I don’t meet every requirement in the person specification?
We encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate most of the key skills, experience and qualities required. If you are enthusiastic about the role and believe you can make a positive contribution, we would welcome your application.

Can I visit before applying?
Yes. We welcome prospective applicants who would like to learn more about the role to visit our college before applying.

Recruitment Process

What happens after I submit my application?
Applications are reviewed by the recruitment panel. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend an interview and/or assessment process through MyNewTerm.

How long does the recruitment process take?
Timescales vary depending on the role, but we aim to keep candidates informed throughout the process and communicate outcomes as quickly as possible.

Will I receive feedback if I am unsuccessful?
Candidates who attend interview will receive feedback to support their future applications.

What should I expect at interview?
This varies by role but may include a formal interview, practical task, presentation or other assessment activities designed to help us understand your skills and experience.

Safeguarding & Compliance

Why do you ask for employment history and references?
As an organisation working with children and young people, we are required to carry out robust pre-employment checks to ensure safe recruitment practices. This includes exploring any gaps in employment history and two satisfactory refences (one being from your most recent employer).

Are all roles subject to DBS checks?
All roles require an enhanced DBS check.

What safeguarding responsibilities do staff have?
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff receive safeguarding training and are expected to contribute to creating a safe environment for our students.

General Questions

Do you offer flexible working?
Where operationally possible, we will consider requests for flexible working arrangements in line with our policies and the needs of the Trust.

Do you support Early Career Teachers (ECTs)?
Yes. We offer a comprehensive induction programme, mentoring and professional support to help ECTs thrive.
